The Alchemist Blog (Book review)

 The Alchemist -

"Dreams are made to be followed" is the central idea of "The Alchemist" which demonstrate in it's deep sense the reality of a human life and the reason of our creation .

I came across this book while bursting under the pile of searches for "the top 10  books one should read at the age of 17" or " best motivational books" where it's cover indicating a message of something ,I was looking to read from last 5 days  appeared with the keen crisp triangle top pyramids creating an aura of Egyptian  culture but  somewhere symbolising all the obstacles and difficulities  one encounters in life with a sun lightening the sky  symbolically depicting the faith of a person under those difficult situations which ultimately aid them to achieve their aim in life.

 Overview

Therefore, for not spoiling the curiosity of future readers . I'll provide the insights of it in a Blurb.

The story is about the journey of a young shepherd boy Santiago towards his dreams and destiny which takes him from the streets of Andalusia to the deserts and finally to the pyramids in Egypt where in the route he meets a Gypsy women, an old king , Thief, merchant, Englishman and a lot of people each teaching him a lesson which aids him to get more close to his inner self as well as his treasure and made him to understand the true meaning of life "Soul of the world".

Here, are some of my Favourite lines from the alchemist:

  • "That at a certain point in our lives , we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie"
  • "Never stop dreaming"
  • "Maktub"
  • "When you want something , all the universe conspires to help you achieve it"

Themes

The two most important themes that continues till the end of the Novel are ; Firstly, the notion of "Maktub" (it already written [destiny]) which states that whatever happens in our lives that is already written by the creator of this universe therefore one shall always listen to their heart and trust the process with full faith in the omens of god as with each step we get close our treasures (success) . The story also depicts the beauty of inner self that resides within us as our greatest treasure once we master the language of the world and it's creator.

Santiago journey embarks

Coming up next , this theme is the most Relateable to each one of us that is "Fear" as the fear of failure in something always halts us some taking the next step towards our dreams . It is since birth we fear either from exams , ghost, paranoic peer groups and the list goes on with the time and situation . But we shall know that under and circumstances giving up should not be the option just as that young shepherd teach us throughout his quest towards his treasure and ending up getting what he dreamt of with the wisdom of his life.

Reasons to Read "The Alchemist"

pyramids of egyptThe reason to read this masterpiece is not confined to any particular trait of it . There are many people whose lives are actually changed after reading this magical book , as it inspires to the core of one's heart asking them again and again to do follow their dreams and not to loose hope whatever catastrophe may appear in front of them .

Providing a glance to my personal life , whenever I feel like giving up or lacking somewhere in my perfection i always remember just one word "Maktub" and it keeps me going through that phase with ease .

If you are also someone looking up for a direction to commence on and follow up your dream than i suggest you go on tour with Santiago and at the end you want be the same anymore .
